I'm planning some long hiking trips with my a7R V and need more juice for those high-res shots. I’m torn between the official Sony VG-C4EM and third-party options. Since I’m shooting landscapes, weather sealing is a huge priority. Do you recommend sticking with OEM batteries, or are there reliable third-party alternatives that actually last?

honestly sealing is key outdoors. I'd go with: * Sony VG-C4EM Vertical Grip
* Sony NP-FZ100 Rechargeable Battery Pack OEM is safer for weather than third-party gear iirc, stay safe!!

Seconding the recommendation above. Honestly, you dont wanna mess with non-Sony grips for landscapes cuz of the weather sealing... I learned that the hard way lol. In my experience, these are better value: • SmallRig NP-FZ100 USB-C Rechargeable Camera Battery - way cheaper than OEM and has built-in charging.
Anker 537 Power Bank (PowerCore 24K for Laptop) - itll top off the a7RV via USB-C PD. idk but maybe it helps with costs?? Hope that helps! 👍

yo, been thinking about your question... for your situation, i would suggest looking at some budget-friendly stuff if you wanna save ur cash for lenses. honestly, the OEM gear is sooo pricey. here is what i recommend: * Neewer VG-C4EM Replacement Vertical Battery Grip for Sony A7R V A7R IV A9 II A7S III A1 - it's way cheaper than the Sony version. basically has the same buttons, but i think you gotta be careful with the sealing. it probably isnt "pro" level, so maybe dont leave it out in a downpour??
* Wasabi Power NP-FZ100 Battery 2-Pack 2250mAh and Dual USB Charger - i use these and they're actually pretty good value. ngl, they might not have the *exact* same milliamp-hour precision as the Sony ones, but they basically get the job done for long hikes.
* Nitecore USN4 Pro Dual Slot USB QC Digital Travel Charger for Sony NP-FZ100 - super light for your pack! i mean, i once had a third-party grip act up in the fog, so highkey, just keep an eye on it. gl!
