I just got this crazy expensive Sony a7R IV camera because I really want to take pictures of the tiny flowers in my garden this weekend. I’m so excited to finally start but I realized I dont actually have a lens that can get close enough?? Everything I try to take a picture of just looks blurry when I get close and someone told me I need a macro lens but I have no idea what that means or which one fits.
I have about 800 bucks left in my budget which I hope is enough. Sorry if this is a totally basic question but I am so lost with all the numbers... what is the best macro lens for this camera?
I would suggest the Sigma 105mm f2.8 DG DN Macro Art since it fits your budget. Just be careful though, because macro depth of field is paper thin. You might want to consider a tripod to avoid blur from the slightest movement. That high res sensor shows every tiny mistake, so make sure to keep your shutter speed up.
Since you have that high-res sensor, you need glass that can keep up. The Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Di III Macro VXD fits your budget perfectly and can definitely handle all those megapixels.
> Everything I try to take a picture of just looks blurry when I get close I felt that frustration for weeks! When I finally bought my current setup for about $600, I was so happy with the results. To get those sharp flower shots, you definitely need a lens with 1:1 magnification. Just a heads up tho, a tiny breeze will ruin your shot... I usually have to hold the flower stem still. It takes patience but the detail is just incredible.
