just got the a7c ii and i really need a macro lens for this jewelry shoot im doing for my sisters shop in two weeks but im honestly kinda panicking about the size. i looked at the sony 90mm g because everyone says its the gold standard but then i saw the sigma 105mm art is sharper and cheaper?

my logic was the a7c ii is so tiny and compact that putting a massive brick on it might feel weird or be impossible to balance on my small travel tripod. i saw someone mention the 50mm f2.8 too but people say the working distance is trash... is there something smaller that actually works or am i stuck with a huge setup?

Are you shooting rings or necklaces? You might want to consider:

The Sony FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro G OSS is actually your safest bet for that specific body if you can handle the price. It weighs about 602g and features internal focusing, so the lens doesnt physically grow when youre getting close. Be careful with the Sigma 105mm f/2.8 DG DN Macro Art because it hits 715g. That center of gravity shift on an a7C II can actually cause some serious tripod creep on cheap ball heads or small travel setups. Also, you should definitely avoid the Sony FE 50mm f/2.8 Macro for jewelry shoots. At 1:1 magnification, you are looking at a 1.5 inch working distance which makes lighting nearly impossible without specialized gear. I would suggest checking the Sigma 70mm f/2.8 DG Macro Art if you need to save some cash, but make sure your tripod head is rated for at least 5kg to handle the weight imbalance safely.
