Looks like Sony is determined to blanket every possible focal length range with a new G lens, even the relatively niche 16-25mm. While it would be nice to get some unique focal lengths like a 22-24mm f/2.8 as joked about, a 16-25mm f/2.8 G is just more of the same from Sony - incremental updates covering well-trodden ground.

Don't get me wrong, it will likely be an excellent ultra-wide zoom optically. But it's getting a bit tedious seeing Sony constantly release new lenses with tiny focal length variances rather than truly innovative optics that open up new capabilities. Where are the exciting wildlife lenses with built-in teleconverters or high-quality mid-range PF primes and zooms? Those would be far more interesting than yet another ultra-wide G lens.

First 24-50, now 16-25. Will there be a 50-70 next? Then a 70-90, a 90-105, a 105-150 and a 150-200?

Some day I hope to see a 22-24mm f2.8 that will fill that critical gap in my 16-18, 18-20, 20-22, 24-26, 26-28, 28-30, 30-32, 32-34, 34-36, 36-38, 38-40, 40-42, 42-44, 44-46, 46-48, 48-50, 50-52, 52-54, 54-56, 56-58, 60-62, 62-64, 64-66, 66-68. 68-70 "holy viginti sexity". 😀 😀 

A great wide-angle zoom lens with a lower price than FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM, wish it will be priced lower than $1,000, so I'm going to buy this lens.
