Is this camera still coming ? Has anyone heard any credible rumors or leaks on when Sony might be planning to release it ? Any speculation on specs and features?

@fald34 I have been a long time fan of the RX10, unfortunately with the shrinking market I don’t see a place for an RX10v.

The problem is that there are mirrorless options available which outperform the RX10 with few disadvantages other than price. The Nikon Z7ii paired with their new 28 to 400 (switch to DX mode extends this to 600) outperforms the RX10 while retaining roughly the same size.

The RX10 has a price advantage, the Nikon option mentioned is over twice the price, but for low light and IQ the RX10v would need more than just tweaking to compete.

If Sony did bring out a much improved RX10, the problem is with the much smaller camera market today, it would eat into Sony Mirrorless sales.

Bridge cameras appear to be declining in popularity and demand. With the rise of high-quality cameras built into smartphones that people carry with them everywhere, there is less need for a dedicated bridge camera. Consumers are tending to either upgrade to more advanced interchangeable lens cameras with APS-C or full-frame sensors, or simply rely on the capable camera in their pocket - their cell phone.

Honestly, I've been checking for updates every morning and it's just disappointing at this point. Sony seems to have totally abandoned the high-end bridge market, which sucks because those lenses are so convenient. My old one had issues with the autofocus not being as good as expected compared to modern gear. Here is the reality as I see it:

  • There havent been any credible leaks in forever, which usually means the project is dead.
  • Manufacturing costs for those complex zoom lenses are probably too high for the current demand.
  • Sony is clearly pivoting toward their vlogging lines instead. Before you give up entirely though, what is your main priority for a new camera? Are you looking for that massive 600mm reach specifically, or is it more about having a single lens for travel?

With how long it's been since the RX10 IV, I've started to wonder if Sony plans to continue the RX10 line at all or if they consider it a dead end. The 1-inch superzoom compact market is pretty niche compared to their other camera lines. While I'd love to see an RX10 V with the latest tech, part of me worries Sony may have shifted their focus and abandoned it. I hope I'm wrong though!

These kinds of camera are now replaced by iPhone.

As a long time owner of both iPhone Pros and an RX10 IV I don't think that you can compare today's phone cameras to the RX10. I travel a lot and go on long tours by foot and as a smaller middle-aged female there is no way I can carry a lot of heavy gear in those situations. I would be lost without this high quality bridge camera. For wildlife and bird and nature photography, to get the quality of the detailed photos I am able to capture with my RX10, I would need to carry a lot of heavy gear and different lenses. My iPhone Pro takes great epic scenery shots but zooming in on a bird or butterfly in a tree 75 metres away and getting something even identifiable is not possible. There is no comparing the detail and calendar quality of the RX10 IV pics to a phone camera.

As an RX10 IV owner, I'm hopeful for a potential version V with several key improvements. My wish list includes enhanced low-light performance, 4K/60fps video capability, and more effective image stabilization for handheld shooting. I'd love to see closer focus at 600mm for better nature photography, along with improved overall image quality and resolution. Longer battery life would be a welcome upgrade, as would wildlife eye AF for easier tracking. A built-in ND filter would be a nice bonus. While these enhancements aren't revolutionary, they would significantly elevate the camera's capabilities. If Sony incorporates all these features, I'd be eager to purchase the RX10 V on release day.

Seems RX10 IV has been discontinued. Sony RX10 V needs a bigger sensor to compete with current smartphones.
