I just picked up the Sony ZV-E10 II for a trip to Tokyo next month and I need a gimbal that wont break my back while walking around Shibuya. I spent all night looking at the DJI RS 3 Mini since everyone says its the gold standard but then I saw some people complaining about the balance when using the 10-20mm power zoom lens. Then there is the Zhiyun Crane M2S which is way cheaper but some reviews say the motors struggle with the ZV-E10 II being slightly bigger than the old model. My budget is tight around $250-300 and I just want something that fits in a backpack easily. Which one actually works best for this specific camera setup without being a total nightmare to calibrate?

Honestly, you're right to be careful about the weight limits because the ZV-E10 II is definitely beefier than the original. I've been super satisfied with the DJI RS 3 Mini 3-Axis Gimbal Lightweight Design for this exact setup. It handles the wider lenses without those motor jitters you get on the cheaper ones. The calibration is actually pretty painless once you do it once or twice. A couple tips to save you some stress:

  • Always balance with the screen flipped out if thats how youre gonna film.
  • Check the Zhiyun Crane M3 S 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer as a solid alternative if the DJI is too pricey... it has a bit more motor strength than the M2S. I've had zero complaints using the DJI in crowds. It's a safe choice and works well even if you bump it slightly while walking around. Just make sure the firmware is updated before you leave for Japan! Feel free to ask if you need help with the settings.

I'm still a bit unsure myself but honestly, be careful with those ultra-compact gimbals. I tried a budget setup with my Sony ZV-E10 II last year and it was a struggle because the balance kept shifting. I think I heard that some motors just cant handle the extra weight of the new model.

  • check for battery door access
  • watch out for motor vibration Maybe look for something with a bit more headroom even if it costs more.
