I just treated myself to a new Sony Bravia XR for my PS5 setup, and the picture quality is absolutely stunning! However, I feel like I'm not fully utilizing all the features like HDMI 2.1 and VRR yet. I’m wondering what extras are actually worth the investment to round out the experience. Should I prioritize a certified Ultra High Speed HDMI cable, or is a dedicated gaming soundbar a better first step for that immersive feel? I'm also curious about bias lighting to help with eye strain during late-night sessions. For those of you with a similar 4K setup, what are the absolute must-have accessories you’d recommend to really make the most of this TV's gaming capabilities?

Quick question - whats ur budget look like for these extras?? Before I give advice, I gotta know if youre trying to keep costs low. Like #2 said, that 48Gbps pipe is key for 4K/120Hz, so you DEFINATELY need certified gear. For high-value picks: * Monoprice 8K Certified Ultra High Speed HDMI 2.1 Cable
* Govee TV LED Backlight H6199 Does your room get much natural light during the day tho??

> What are the absolute must-have accessories you’d recommend to really make the most of this TV's gaming capabilities? Oh man, congrats on the Bravia XR!! Seriously, once you see that PS5 HDR pop on a Sony panel, there is literally no going back lol. I went through this exact same accessory rabbit hole last year when I got mine, and honestly, it is so easy to overspend on stuff you dont actually need. First thing’s first: do not trust the random cables in your drawer. If you want VRR and 4K/120Hz to actually work without flickering, you highkey need a certified cable. I grabbed the Zeskit Maya 8K 48Gbps Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable 6.5ft and it basically solved all my signal drop issues for like $20. It is a total steal compared to those overpriced "premium" ones at big box stores. For sound, I personally love the Sony ecosystem synergy. If you have the budget, the Sony HT-A7000 7.1.2ch Dolby Atmos Soundbar is amazing cuz it lets you use the TV as a center channel, which makes voices feel like they’re coming right out of the screen!! But if youre looking for something more cost-effective, the Sony PULSE 3D Wireless Headset is a must-have for like $99. The 3D audio is actually insane in games like Returnal. Also, you mentioned bias lighting—GET IT. It saves your eyes during those 2 AM sessions. I use the Govee DreamView T1 TV Backlight for 55-65 inch TVs which syncs with the screen colors. It makes the black levels look even deeper, which sounds impossible on an XR, but it really works... basically a game changer for immersion. Enjoy the new setup! 👍

Ok so, coming back to this... you've basically got the "king of gaming TVs" right now with that Bravia XR. To actually push it to its limit, you gotta focus on the data pipeline and environment first. Tbh, people overlook the cable, but if it isnt certified for 48Gbps, your VRR might flicker or drop out randomly. - **The Cable:** I've used the Belkin Ultra HD High Speed HDMI 2.1 Cable for a long time and it's rock solid for 4K/120Hz. Definitely worth the small investment for stability.
- **Bias Lighting:** This is literally a game changer for eye strain during late sessions. For a high-end Sony panel, you want 6500K accuracy. I highkey recommend MediaLight Mk2 Flex 6500K LED Bias Lighting. It makes the blacks look even deeper.
- **Storage:** Since 4K titles are huge, youre gonna need space. I'd grab a Samsung 990 PRO NVMe SSD 2TB with Heatsink so you dont have to constantly delete games. Anyway, gl! It's gonna look insane once it's dialed in. 👍

Before I give advice, quick question—how far is the PS5 from the TV?? Unfortunately, my last 'high-speed' copper cable cut out constantly, which was so disappointing. I'm still learning, but reliability is everything! * Fiber Optic (Cable Matters Active Fiber Optic HDMI 2.1 Cable) vs. Copper:
* Fiber: Safer for long runs, zero interference.
* Copper: Cheaper, but signal drops are risky. Fiber is way more reliable for that Bravia setup!!

Quick reply while I have a sec... honestly, before I dropped cash on more gear, I found that the DIY calibration route made a bigger difference than any single accessory. When I got my Bravia, I spent a solid weekend messing with the internal settings and fine-tuning the local dimming and peak luminance to match my room environment. Professional calibration services are an option, but I felt like doing it myself helped me understand the technical handshake between the PS5 and the XR processor way better. Tbh, I realized I was gonna be able to do a lot with just the built-in tools. I have a couple of questions about your physical setup though:

  • Are you planning to wall mount this yourself or keep it on the stand?
  • Are you looking for true color accuracy or just trying to make the HDR look as punchy as possible? I found that getting the mounting height exactly right for my eyeline improved things more than I expected because of how the panels handle contrast at different angles... it is basically a free upgrade if you DIY the placement correctly.
