I just got a 65 inch Sony 4K tv in Chicago and saw a video where someone had these glowy lights on the back that changed colors with the movie. it looked so cool but i have literally no idea what those are called. is it just like a sticker you put on? I dont want to break my new tv or anything since I saved up for months.

I have about 60 bucks left and i really want to set it up before my friends come over Friday. are there specific ones for Sony or can i just buy any random light strip? sorry if this is a basic question i just dont want to mess it up...

Like someone mentioned, camera kits are the move, but honestly, most entry-level ones are not as good as expected. I had issues with the low-density LEDs overheating. Unfortunately, cheap controllers can actually damage your TVs USB ports if the power draw is off.

Yo, late to the party but those lights are called bias lighting or reactive backlights. Since you got a 65 inch Sony and sixty bucks, you gotta be careful because some cheap ones look like trash. Like someone mentioned, camera kits are the only way to get that color-sync vibe without spending hundreds on a sync box. Check out Govee TV Backlight 3 Lite with Fish-eye Correction H61E1. Its the newer version of their main kit and usually hits your budget. Pros: it matches screen colors really well and the camera is pretty small. Cons: you still have to mount a tiny camera on your nice TV... lol. If you hate the camera, look at Govee RGBIC TV Backlight for 55-65 inch TVs H61B2. It wont sync with screen colors automatically, but you can pick presets in the app. Its way cheaper, so youd have cash left for pizza on Friday. Stick with these instead of generic no-name strips.

Regarding what #1 said about cheap strips, I had issues too. Is your TV wall mounted? Unfortunately generics arent as good as expected, so maybe grab the Govee DreamView T1 Backlight H6199 instead.

I had issues with those cheap generic strips before and they were honestly not as good as expected. Most wont actually sync with your movie, which is a bummer... unfortunately. If you want that reactive look, check out the Govee DreamView T1 TV Backlight for 55-65 inch TVs. It uses a tiny camera and wont damage your new Sony. Its basically just a sticker, so dont sweat it.
