Hey everyone! I’ve got a massive 14-hour flight coming up next month, and I’m honestly a bit stressed about the noise. I’ve heard Sony is the gold standard for Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), so I’m looking to invest in a solid pair before I head out. I really need something that can effectively drown out that constant engine drone and the general cabin chatter so I can actually catch some sleep.
I’ve been looking closely at the WH-1000XM5s since they are the flagship, but I’ve read conflicting reviews. Some people say the WH-1000XM4s are actually better for travel because they fold up more compactly, which is a big deal since I’m trying to pack light with just a carry-on. Also, I wear glasses, so I’m concerned about the clamping force over several hours—I don't want them pressing my frames into the side of my head halfway across the ocean!
Has anyone here used both of these models on long-haul flights? I’m curious if the noise cancellation on the XM5 is significantly better enough to justify the extra cost and the bulkier case. Or is there another Sony model, maybe even in-ears, that I’m completely overlooking for this specific purpose?
Which Sony headphones do you think provide the absolute best noise-canceling experience for a long-distance traveler?
Honestly, check the Sony WF-1000XM5 Noise Canceling Truly Wireless Earbuds!! The QN2e chip provides elite attenuation, plus zero glasses pressure and theyre perfect for side-sleeping. Seriously, the ANC is industry-leading tech
yo, i feel u on the flight stress! in my experience, i would suggest the Sony WH-1000XM4 Wireless Noise Canceling Headphones over the flagship. basically:
- they fold smaller for ur bags
- clamping is way softer for glasses the Sony WH-1000XM5 Wireless Noise Canceling Headphones auto-ANC acts weird with cabin pressure changes... kinda risky imo. stick to the xm4 for reliability. gl!
Sooo, I've been doing these long hauls for years and here's a huge warning: NEVER buy the most expensive flagship just because it’s the newest!! Honestly, the biggest mistake people make is ignoring the "clamp force" when they wear glasses. If you get the latest fancy model with the slim headband, it might feel okay for 20 mins, but by hour 6? Your frames will be digging into your skull. It’s literal torture... trust me, I've been there. Tbh, I'm super satisfied with the older folding Sony versions. They’re usually way cheaper—like $100 less—and the case is much smaller for ur carry-on. The ANC on those is still top-tier, basically you won't even notice a difference with the engine drone. Save your money for some nice meals at your destination instead! Just make sure whatever u get, it actually FOLDS. Those bulky non-folding cases take up too much space lol. GL on your flight!!
Gonna try this over the weekend. Will report back if it works!
