Hey everyone! I’ve been a loyal Sony user for years, but I’m really struggling to pick the right pair for my fitness routine. I currently own the WH-1000XM4 over-ears, and while the sound is incredible, they are just way too bulky for the gym. I find myself constantly adjusting them during bench presses, and the ear pads get uncomfortably hot and sweaty during cardio sessions.

I’m looking to switch to something more gym-friendly, but I’m torn between a few different models. I’ve been eyeing the WF-1000XM5 earbuds because of the top-tier noise cancellation, but I’m worried those foam tips might lose their seal or slip out once I start sweating heavily. I also looked at the LinkBuds S since they seem much lighter and potentially more secure, but I'm not sure if the ANC is strong enough to drown out the loud, repetitive gym music that's always blasting in the background.

I really need something with a solid IPX4 rating that won't die on me after a few months of intense training. Does anyone have long-term experience with Sony buds in a high-intensity environment? Between the flagship earbuds and the more mid-range options like the WF-C700N, which Sony model do you think offers the best balance of stability, sweat resistance, and sound quality for working out?

in my experience Sony WF-C700N is the move:
- cheap ($100)
- light
i'd be careful with the seal tho... maybe try them first? gl!

Respectfully, I'd consider another option. Honestly, spending $200+ on gym buds is risky because sweat eventually kills everything. I'd actually go cheaper with the Sony WF-C500 Truly Wireless In-Ear Headphones. They're like $60-$80 and super light. I've used mine for months and they literally never budge during cardio. Plus, you don't gotta worry about the foam tips on the Sony WF-1000XM5 getting gross. Save your cash! gl

Yo, adding my two cents... so basically, for gym buds, the technical seal is way more important than just the raw ANC power specs. If the bud moves even 1mm while youre running, you lose that isolation anyway and the music starts leaking in.

Check out the 'RTINGS' comparison tool if u wanna see the actual frequency response and isolation charts—its a great resource for data-driven decisions. Pro tip: if u end up liking the flagship Sony WF-1000XM5 but hate the foam, you can actually buy SpinFit CP100+ Medical Grade Silicone Ear Tips for like $12. This totally solves the 'slipping out' issue when things get sweaty!!

Technical breakdown from a budget perspective:
- Sony WF-C700N: Around $99. It uses the DSEE engine to upscale sound, which is cool, but the ANC is definitely more 'entry-level' compared to the flagships.
- Sony LinkBuds S: Usually retails for $140-$170. It has the 'Integrated Processor V1' which is actually the same tech as the older flagship M4s. At 4.8 grams, they are stupidly light and stable.
- Sony WF-1000XM5: High-end at $299. The 'Integrated Processor V2' is insane for noise, but idk if I wanna risk $300 buds in a gym bag every day.

Honestly, the Sony LinkBuds S is probably the sweet spot. It offers that high-end ANC you want for loud gym music but its way lighter than the M5s. Plus, you save like $150 which is basically a few months of gym membership lol. but yeah, either way, definitely check the seal first. gl!
