I just started making beats in my tiny Chicago apartment and my cheap earbuds finally died. Im trying to learn how to mix but all the gear talk is super confusing. Is there a specific Sony headphone for this? I only have about 150 dollars to spend...

Had a sec to think about this... I went through the same struggle when i moved into my place. I ended up really satisfied with these options:

Dude welcome to the grind! Honestly mixing in a small spot like that is such a vibe but you really gotta be careful about what gear you pick up first! I am super obsessed with getting the right setup because wasting cash on stuff that breaks is the absolute worst. Since you mentioned being in a tiny apartment, are you looking for something that blocks out all the noise around you, or does that not really matter? Also, how long are your typical sessions gonna be? Some of these pro models can feel like a vice grip on your head after an hour, so I wanna make sure we find you something that is actually comfortable for the long haul! Cant wait to hear more about your setup!

Adding my two cents here, but honestly, this whole situation reminds me of when my roommate tried to set up a mixing station in our old place. It was such a disappointment and really made me skeptical about all the hype surrounding certain brands.

  • He spent way too much time obsessing over specs and industry standards
  • Unfortunately, the first pair he got had this weird rattling in the left ear after only a week
  • He tried to get a refund but the shipping costs back to the warehouse were a total joke
  • Basically, he ended up with a paperweight and a lot of frustration I really hate seeing people rush into these things just because everyone says it is the right way to go. I have had issues with gear that was supposed to be bulletproof just falling apart or sounding totally different than the reviews promised. It is a total bummer when you are trying to be smart with your cash and it just feels like a gamble regardless of what you pick... i still think about how much time he wasted just trying to get a simple setup running.
