So I was thinking about getting the Tilta cage for my FX3 but then I read it might mess with the Sony XLR top handle? My logic was that Tilta looks more solid, but SmallRig is everywhere.
I'm shooting a wedding in Chicago next month and need a setup that doesn't block my audio pins. What are you guys using?
Unfortunately the Tilta fit had issues and wasnt as good as expected for my handle. Id suggest the SmallRig Half Cage for Sony FX3 instead to keep those audio pins safe and clear.
Building on the earlier suggestion, the SmallRig ecosystem is basically the king of budget-friendly rigs that actually work. I've tried many over the years and honestly, spending hundreds on a cage is overkill for most wedding setups where weight is a huge factor. Quick question tho—what exactly are you planning to hang off this thing? If you're just doing a monitor and maybe a side handle, you can definitely keep costs down without sacrificing the top handle functionality. In my experience, these are the best ways to keep it cheap:
Just saw this and man, I totally feel your frustration! It is absolutely ridiculous how much we pay for these premium cages only for them to block essential features like those audio pins. Honestly its ridiculous! Why are we paying hundreds of dollars for metal that doesn't even respect the camera's original design?? It drives me crazy! I remember spending a fortune on a rig last year thinking it would be amazing, only to find out it basically ruined my workflow because I couldn't even access my ports. It’s such a scam how these companies ignore basic ergonomics just to look cool. You have to be so careful because these manufacturers just don't care once they have your money. It's a total nightmare trying to find something reliable that doesn't cost an arm and a leg! TL;DR: Gear prices are skyrocketing while compatibility is going downhill, it's honestly a total joke.
