My wedding gig in Philly is next Saturday and Im honestly panicking because my FX3 is still naked. I saw the SmallRig cage but people keep saying the Tilta is better for handle clearance? I only have $300 left in my budget and Im so lost. Whats actually the best cage and handle setup for this thing?

I'd actually skip SmallRig and grab the Nitze Sony FX3 FX30 Cage with Stinger Handle instead! It's absolutely amazing for weddings.

  • insane value for money
  • better grip clearance

Building on the earlier suggestion, I actually went the Tilta Sony FX3 FX30 Full Camera Cage V2 route instead. When I started, I grabbed a different cage and it totally blocked my top handle pins... huge mistake for audio. This Tilta one fits the stock XLR handle perfectly without needing extra adapters. Quick tip: keep a small hex key in your pocket because those cage screws love to loosen up during long wedding days.

I remember when I first got my FX3 I was literally shaking thinking about taking it out without protection. I ended up getting the SmallRig Cage for Sony FX3/FX30 4183 and it has been solid for about a year now. The main issue I found was the top handle clearance was a bit tight when I was wearing gloves during a winter shoot, which made me feel kinda uneasy about my grip.

  • SmallRig is very budget friendly and leaves you money for extra batteries.
  • Tilta has better spacing for the XLR handle if you use that a lot.
  • Always check your screws before the ceremony starts to avoid any wobbling. If you have the $300, the Tilta Sony FX3/FX30 Camera Cage V2 Black feels a bit more refined for the handle clearance stuff you mentioned. Better to be safe than sorry with a wedding on the line.
