I’m looking to boost storage for my PS5 and older PS4 Pro without breaking the bank. I need that Gen4 speed for the PS5, but I’m wondering if a mid-range 2TB drive is better value than a top-tier 1TB. Does the PS4 Pro really benefit much from a SATA SSD? Any specific models you'd recommend for performance versus price?
In my experience, 2TB mid-range beats 1TB top-tier every time. 1. For PS5, the Lexar NM790 2TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD is ~$130. It works great and you *literally* wont notice the speed gap vs expensive drives.
2. PS4 Pro definitely benefits from Crucial MX500 1TB SATA 2.5 Inch Internal SSD ($65); it makes the UI way snappier. honestly, just go for more space. gl!
In my experience, honestly, just go for 2TB... I bought an expensive 1TB drive years ago and totally regretted it cuz I ran out of space in like a week. 1. For PS5: TEAMGROUP T-Force Cardea A440 Pro 2TB NVMe PCIe Gen4 SSD is insane value.
2. For PS4 Pro: SATA bottleneck's real, but ADATA Ultimate SU800 1TB 2.5 Inch SATA III SSD helps with menu stutters. gl!
In my experience, PS5 architecture makes ultra-fast drives kinda redundant because the console caps real-world performance. Better off prioritizing capacity. I’d suggest the Silicon Power XS70 2TB NVMe PCIe Gen4 SSD for the best bang-for-your-buck. For the PS4 Pro, the SATA III bottleneck limits speed, but an SSD fixes the sluggish UI. The Samsung 870 EVO 1TB SATA III 2.5 Inch Internal SSD is super reliable for this. 2TB is highkey the way to go tho!

Huh interesting. I had no idea. The more you know I guess 🤷
Finally someone says it. Ive been thinking this for a while but wasnt sure.
Late to the party but I've been running my setup for a couple years now and honestly, I'm super satisfied with how it's held up. When the PS5 first launched, I spent hours obsessing over IOPS and sequential read speeds, worried I'd pick something too slow. Eventually I just went with a mid-range Western Digital drive and its been perfect. The loading times are basically indistinguishable from the internal SSD... no stutters or anything. For my PS4 Pro, I just used a cheap Kingston SATA drive I had lying around. The Pro's interface is way snappier now and games like Monster Hunter load so much faster. If you're looking for value, just go with any 2TB Gen4 drive from Western Digital for the PS5. You can't go wrong there. For the Pro, just get whatever budget SATA drive PNY is selling. Trust me, you'll be way happier with 2TB of space than having a slightly faster 1TB drive that forces you to delete games every weekend. TL;DR: Prioritize a 2TB drive from Western Digital for PS5 and literally any SATA SSD for the Pro. Capacity wins every time.
