so i finally got my hands on a ps5 pro and man the storage is already basically gone lol. i play way too much cod and those updates are just huge. im looking to add at least 2tb before this weekend because i have some time off work to finally sink into some backlogs and the new spider-man stuff. right now im stuck looking at the wd black sn850x vs the samsung 990 pro. the samsung is like 20 bucks more at the local shop but i heard it stays cooler? but then the wd black is the one everyone recommends for playstation. i got about 180 bucks to spend tops. which one is actually better for the pro or does it even matter at this point?
Unfortunately, those picks have been disappointing with bugs lately. I've had issues with both tbh. Try these:
Quick reply while I'm on my break. Honestly, if you're trying to stay under that $180 limit and still get 2TB, you don't really need to overthink the big brand names. Most of these gen 4 drives feel identical when you're actually playing. I ended up going with the Crucial T500 2TB NVMe SSD with Heatsink and it's been rock solid for months. It usually sits right around your budget or even lower if you catch a sale at a shop. Another decent option if you want to save even more cash for actual games is the Corsair MP600 Pro LPX 2TB NVMe SSD. It comes with a pre-installed heatsink that fits perfectly in the PS5 slot without any fiddling. Just slide it in, tighten the screw, and you're good. As long as it hits the recommended speeds, the PS5 is happy. Don't stress too much about the tiny speed differences... you really wont notice them during loading screens.
I've swapped drives in every PS console over the years and honestly, you wont see any real world difference in a PS5 Pro. The WD_BLACK SN850X 2TB NVMe SSD with Heatsink is my pick over the Samsung 990 Pro 2TB NVMe SSD since it's cheaper and runs great. People worry too much about temps, but the console fan handles it tho. TL;DR: Get the WD_BLACK and save your money.
