Hey everyone! I just managed to lock in my pre-order for the PS5 Pro, and I'm super hyped for that extra performance. However, I realized the 'Pro' experience might require a few extras since it doesn't come with everything in the box. I'm already eyeing the detachable disc drive because I have a huge physical library, and I'm debating if the vertical stand is worth the extra cost. I also want to make sure my current monitor can actually handle the new PSSR upscaling features effectively. Are there any other specific controllers or cooling docks you'd recommend for this model? What are the absolute essential accessories you’re picking up to complete your Pro setup?

yo, honestly skip the "cooling docks"—they usually just mess with airflow. For your setup, I would suggest prioritizing these: - PlayStation 5 Disc Drive: absolute MUST for your physical library.
- Sony PlayStation 5 Vertical Stand: looks clean, but basically just aesthetic compared to the drive. Be careful with cheap 3rd party stands tho... they can be super unstable. I'd lowkey grab a DualSense Edge Wireless Controller instead to finish the pro vibe. gl!

Seconding the recommendation above! Seriously, stay away from those cooling docks, they basically just push dust inside... kinda scary tbh. But I'm SO HYPED for you! Since youre being cost-conscious, I think you should maybe try: * WD_BLACK SN850X 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD for extra space.
* A cheap MagicFiber Microfiber Cleaning Cloths 6 Pack. The stand looks nice like they said, but having one extra TB of storage is way more practical imo. Good luck!! 👍

^ This. Also, since youre dropping a lot of cash on the Pro, you really might want to consider protecting that hardware from power spikes or sudden outages. I've seen too many consoles get fried or end up with corrupted SSDs just because the power flickered during a system update. If you want to keep the performance stable and safe, I would suggest looking into a UPS:

  • APC Back-UPS Pro 1500VA: Super reliable and built like a tank, but it is pretty bulky and expensive.
  • CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD PFC Sinewave UPS: Usually a bit cheaper and has a smaller footprint, though some people find the software a bit finicky. Make sure to get a pure sine wave unit since it's much safer for the sensitive components in the Pro. I'd also recommend grabbing a Zeskit Maya 8K 48Gbps HDMI Cable if youre worried about PSSR bandwidth... some older cables just cant handle the high bitrates without flickering. Better to be safe than sorry with such an expensive setup!

Congrats on snagging the Pro but honestly if youre an enthusiast you should really think about the long term maintenance side of things because these consoles basically act like massive dust magnets and you dont want that heat building up. Instead of buying extra gadgets that might break I usually suggest going the DIY route to keep everything running fresh since the Pro is such a big investment.

  • Get a general electronics tool kit from iFixit so you can safely open things up for cleaning
  • Pick up some custom plates or skins from a brand like dbrand to give it a more unique look
  • Grab an electric air duster from any decent brand on Amazon to keep those vents clear Tbh doing the maintenance yourself is way better than paying for a professional service later on and it keeps the performance where it should be without needing those sketchy cooling docks everyone is telling you to avoid anyway. Just make sure you have the right tools and youre basically set for years.

Congrats on the preorder. Honestly, before you spend a ton on more hardware, you should really look into your audio setup and your HDMI cables. From a market research perspective, Sony usually locks down the best features for their own gear, so sticking with the official Sony headsets is definitely the safest route if you want zero compatibility issues and proper integration with the system software. If you want to branch out though, brands like SteelSeries are basically the gold standard for comfort and reliability in the current market. Just get any of their console specific sets and you are good. I have seen way too many people buy cheap stuff that breaks in a month, so sticking to the big names is worth the peace of mind for the long term. Also, dont overlook your HDMI situation. Since youre pushing for that Pro performance and PSSR, you need a legit ultra high speed cable to handle the bandwidth. I usually trust brands like Belkin or just stick with the cable in the box to be safe. Third party cables can be really hit or miss with signal dropouts, and you dont want to bottleneck that new console with a low quality connection.

  • Stick with Sony for the most reliable audio experience
  • Look into SteelSeries for better comfort during long sessions
  • Grab a certified cable from Belkin if the stock one isnt long enough

Like someone mentioned, the potential for that PSSR tech is absolutely amazing! Honestly tho, I have the exact same problem as you regarding the monitor setup and it has been driving me crazy for like a month now. I have been a long-term owner since the first PS5 launch and I usually have my specs totally dialed in, but I still cant find any definitive info on which displays will actually play nice with the new upscaling bandwidth requirements... it is just so frustrating because I am totally stuck in the same loop of wanting to upgrade but having zero clear answers on what actually works!

Just catching up on this thread and honestly all the talk about setups reminds me of when my cousin got his first big console. He was so obsessed with the perfect DIY setup that he actually tried to build his own cooling rack using some spare copper piping and a desk fan he found in the garage. He spent like two whole weekends soldering things together and swore it was gonna be the most efficient system ever built. Well, one afternoon he forgets to tighten a seal and the whole thing basically starts vibrating across his desk like an old washing machine. It ended up knocking over a huge glass of iced tea right into his power strip. The sound it made was like a small firework going off and the smell of toasted electronics stayed in that room for months. We still bring it up every Thanksgiving and he gets so defensive about his engineering skills. Anyway, that was a whole ordeal... but yeah, congrats on the pre-order!
