Hey everyone! I finally pulled the trigger and secured my PS5 Pro order. I am beyond hyped to see how those enhanced graphics and higher frame rates look in person, especially for games like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Spider-Man 2. However, after doing some research on what is actually in the box, I started to realize that the console itself is just the beginning. I really want to make sure I have everything ready for a smooth day-one experience without having to run back to the store or wait for more deliveries.
Since the Pro doesn't include the disc drive or the vertical stand as standard, those are already sitting in my cart, but I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by the other options out there. I am currently running a 4K OLED setup with HDMI 2.1 support, so I am wondering if I should invest in a higher-end HDMI cable than what comes in the box, or if the stock one is actually sufficient for stable 120Hz and VRR performance? I have heard mixed things about the quality of the included cables for high-bandwidth gaming.
Another big concern for me is storage. I know the Pro comes with a 2TB internal drive, which is a great start, but my current digital library is already pushing that limit on my base PS5. I am looking into adding an M.2 SSD right away, but I am not sure if I should be looking for specific read/write speeds that go beyond the standard 5,500 MB/s recommendations to truly match the Pro's potential. Also, for audio, I am curious if the Pulse Elite headset is a significant enough jump over the original Pulse 3D to justify the price for this specific setup.
Lastly, I am debating whether to finally upgrade to the DualSense Edge controller or if that is just overkill. I want the most immersive experience possible, but I also want to be smart about where I spend my remaining budget after that hefty console price tag.
If you were building a PS5 Pro setup from scratch today, what would you consider the top three absolute must-have accessories to really get the most out of the new hardware?
So basically the Pro is a beast but Sony kinda cheaped out on the extras imo. I mean, you're spending all that cash and still gotta buy a stand?? It's pretty annoying. For your 4K OLED, the stock cable is usually fine but honestly i had issues with flickering at 120Hz on my setup... unfortunately it was not as good as expected. I'd grab a Zeskit Maya 8K 48Gbps Certified Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable just to be safe. For storage, 5,500 MB/s is basically the bare minimum now. I think you should look for the Samsung 990 PRO 2TB NVMe M.2 SSD with Heatsink because it hits 7,450 MB/s. My slower drive was disappointing in big games. Lastly, the PlayStation Pulse Elite Wireless Headset is a big jump over the 3D ones cuz of the planar drivers. Is the Edge controller overkill?? Idk but definitely get the SSD first. gl!!
Honestly, the stock HDMI cable is totally fine, dont waste cash there. For storage, i recommend the Seagate FireCuda 530 2TB NVMe SSD with Heatsink because its sustained write speeds are top-tier for the Pro. Also, check out the SteelSeries+Arctis+Nova+7P+Wireless&linkCode=osi&tag=5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7P Wireless instead of the Sony ones; the comfort and multi-platform support are huge pluses. Skip the Edge controller for now, basically just save your cash for games!! gl
Sooo, congrats on the Pro! I've tried many setups over the years and here are my top three picks for you:
