So I finally snagged a PS5 Pro preorder and now I'm realizing my current setup is pretty pathetic. I've been using this old wired Turtle Beach set that is literally held together by duct tape and hope at this point and it definitely doesn't do justice to the games I'm playing. I'm looking to go fully wireless because I'm tired of the cable getting caught on my chair arms every time I shift around or get up to grab a drink. I spent all last night falling down a rabbit hole of reviews and I'm honestly more confused than when I started.
Here is what I've looked at so far:
I live in a pretty crowded apartment complex in San Diego so there is a ton of 2.4ghz interference from everyone's wifi which makes me nervous about some of these wireless dongles cutting out. My head is also kinda on the larger side so comfort is a huge deal for me since I usually play for 3 or 4 hours at a time. My budget is strictly around $200 because I already dropped a ton of cash on the console itself and I'm trying to pick something up within the next two weeks before the Pro actually arrives.
I mostly play late at night when the rest of the house is asleep so I need something with decent isolation so I don't wake anyone up during loud sequences in Spider-Man or Elden Ring. Is there something I'm missing that works better with the Pro hardware specifically? Or am I just overthinking the whole planar driver vs dynamic driver thing? I really just want something that sounds great out of the box without needing a PC to tweak a million EQ settings...
Unfortunately, many newer sets had issues with build quality that were not as good as expected. Ive been methodical about checking technical reviews on RTINGS to find reliable options for a big head.
> I like the idea of planar drivers but I'm scared of the connectivity issues people talk about. Unfortunately, the Sony Pulse Elite Wireless Headset PlayStation had issues with constant signal drops in my place. It was not as good as expected tho. I recommend the <a href=" https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt= SteelSeries+Arctis+Nova+7P+Wireless+Multi-Platform&BI=8941&KBID=10361&SID=12345&DFF=d50" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7P Wireless Multi-Platform instead. Its a more methodical choice for high interference areas. The suspension band fits larger heads better and the battery is actually reliable for long sessions.
^ This. Also, does your setup require simultaneous Bluetooth for mobile calls while gaming? That really impacts which wireless chipsets handle interference better. Ive been very satisfied with the HyperX Cloud III Wireless Gaming Headset for PC PS5 PS4 lately. Signal stability on the 2.4GHz band is excellent in high-traffic areas like apartments. Quick tip: plug the dongle into the front port of the Pro to avoid signal degradation from the rear heat sinks.
