Hey everyone! I’m finally hitting the storage limit on my PS4 Pro and the loading times for games like Monster Hunter World are driving me crazy. I’ve heard an external SSD can help speed things up, but I’m not sure which ones are actually worth the money.

I have a few requirements in mind:

  • 1TB or 2TB of storage capacity
  • Reliable performance for long gaming sessions
  • Budget under $150 if possible

I’ve been looking at the Samsung T7 or the Crucial X8, but I’m worried about compatibility or paying for speed the console can't even use. Does anyone have a specific external SSD they’d recommend that offers a good balance of performance and price?

Quick question - are you set on external? In my years of testing, the PS4 Pro basically caps out at SATA III speeds anyway. I've wasted SO much money on fast drives that the console just couldnt use... its kinda disappointing. Honestly, I'd look at the SanDisk 1TB Extreme Portable SSD SDSSDE61-1T00-G25 instead. It's reliable for long sessions and basically fits ur budget better than the ones you mentioned.

yo! i totally feel u on those load times... monster hunter world is literally unbearable on the stock drive haha. so for ur situation, i highkey recommend the Samsung T7 Portable SSD 1TB or the Crucial X8 1TB Portable SSD. i've used both and they basically max out what the ps4 pro can actually handle. honestly ur right about not paying for speed u cant use. the ps4 pro usb ports are the bottleneck, so buying a super expensive nvme drive is kinda overkill, but these two are usually priced so well now that it doesnt even matter. i think the t7 is super reliable for those long gaming sessions cuz it doesnt get too hot. quick tip: just make sure u plug it into the back usb port on the pro so it stays out of the way and doesn't get bumped! also, make sure the drive is at least 250gb or the ps4 wont let u install games on it. anyway i hope that helps... good luck with the grind! peace

Yeah I definitely agree with what the others said about the speed caps. No point in overspending on fancy gear when the console is just gonna bottleneck it anyway, gotta be careful with your budget these days. Honestly it reminds me of when I bought this super expensive tent for a hiking trip last year thinking it would last forever. I spent weeks researching the best waterproof materials and then the very first night we used it, my cousin accidentally tripped over a stake and ripped the whole side open. We ended up having to sleep in the back of his cramped SUV while it poured rain outside. It was honestly the most miserable night of my life and I still havent gotten the smell of damp socks out of my floor mats... anyway lol sorry kinda went off on a tangent there.
