My new Sony camera is so tiny and I'm terrified I'll drop it during my trip to Florida next week. I have no idea where to even start with accessories...
What do people usually use for a better grip?
Late to the party but I looked into the ergonomics of these tiny bodies quite a bit last year. The physical handling issues usually stem from the flat faceplate design which offers zero leverage for your fingers. To stay under your budget and weight limit, the Sony AG-R2 Attachment Grip is probably the most logical choice if you have an RX100 model. It is made of a cross-hatched elastomer that significantly increases the grip coefficient. I measured one once and it adds less than 5 grams to the total mass, so it wont affect your pocketability. Tbh, if you have the ZV-1, a baseplate like the SmallRig L-Shape Grip for Sony ZV-1 2936 is technically superior because it shifts the tripod mount away from the battery door. It is a bit heavier at 30g, but the aluminum build is solid. Both options use materials that wont degrade in the Florida humidity, which is a major factor to consider for your trip.
> My new Sony camera is so tiny and I'm terrified I'll drop it Building on the earlier suggestion, you gotta check out the JJC HG-RX100 Aluminum Alloy Camera Hand Grip! It is seriously amazing for the price and feels way more secure than the stock body. I grabbed mine for like $25 and it fits perfectly without adding weight. It makes the camera feel like a real tool rather than a slippery bar of soap! Total lifesaver for travel.
Totally agree, those bodies are notoriously slick. In my experience, even basic additions improve ergonomics.
