I just picked up a Sony RX100 VII and want a high-quality leather case that doesn't add too much bulk. I'm looking for something with easy battery and SD card access that still feels premium. Has anyone tried the Gariz half-cases or the official Sony LCJ-RXK? What’s your favorite for balancing style and protection?
Ok so, I've tried a few... honestly, the Sony LCJ-RXK jacket case is basically overpriced for what it is. I would suggest being careful with cheap knockoffs cuz they might scratch the finish. Check out the TP Original Leather Half Case for Sony RX100 VII instead. It's like $45 and gives you that premium leather feel without the Gariz price tag. Just make sure to check the battery door clearance. gl!
Had a moment to think about this more... i went through this last year and tried both: • Gariz Sony RX100 VII Half Case HG-RX100M7BK: technical masterpiece! amazing build with a solid metal baseplate. easy battery access, but pricey.
• MegaGear Ever Ready Genuine Leather Half Case for Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 VII: basically the best budget value. honestly, it fits reallyyy well and is super slim for the price. gl!
Quick follow up while I'm thinking about it... honestly, I'm gonna disagree slightly with going the budget route or even the standard Gariz. I've spent way too much time looking into the market for these, and usually, the mass-market ones use leather that peels after a year lol. So basically, if you look at some of the more niche makers, you get way better longevity for the price. Here are two I'd check out: * Lim's Design Sony RX100 VII Italian Leather Half Case: I'm pretty sure the build quality here beats the Gariz. It's got a milled aluminum base but uses genuine Minerva leather which ages way better than the processed stuff. It feels way more premium in hand.
* Kaza Deluxe Sony RX100 VII Leather Case: If you want that "bespoke" vintage look, these guys are the way to go. It adds a tiny bit more volume, but the protection is solid and the leather is top-tier. Anyway, just my two cents after testing a bunch of these over the years. I think the mid-range brands sometimes miss the mark on actual leather quality. gl with the choice!
