I just got the new Sony ZV-E10 II because I want to film my trip to Italy next month but I am totally lost with all the extra gear people say I need. I keep seeing videos about filters for the lens and honestly I have no idea where to start or if they even matter for a beginner like me. Someone mentioned an ND filter is like sunglasses for the camera? My budget is pretty tight like under $100 for everything right now since the camera was so expensive lol. Is there a specific one I absolutely need so my outdoor videos dont look all blown out and white or can I just skip it...

^ This. Also, be careful with super cheap NDs because they often add a nasty "X" pattern to your footage. Since youre on a budget, I would suggest looking at:

Italy is gonna be amazing! Rome was blinding last summer and my footage wouldve been trashed without a filter. Honestly, the Hoya 55mm Variable Density II Filter was a lifesaver for me because the colors stayed so crisp. I also tried the Marumi 55mm DHG Vari-ND Filter which is a total workhorse if you want something light, though the Hoya feels a bit more premium.

Honestly the sunglasses for your camera thing is spot on. If youre going to Italy the sun is gonna be brutal and without a filter your footage will definitely look choppy or just totally blown out white. I remember my first trip... everything looked like a weird home video because I didnt have an ND. You definitely need one if you want to keep your shutter speed low for that natural motion blur. Since youre on a budget just look for a variable ND filter from K&F Concept Variable ND Filter. Its a decent option that works well without breaking the bank. You dont need the most expensive glass to see a massive difference. Just get any variable one from them that fits your lens and itll save your shots. It works fine for travel even though you might get a tiny bit of color shift compared to the pro stuff. It makes life so much easier than swapping fixed filters constantly. Youll be glad you have it when youre standing in front of the Colosseum at noon! If you need help with the lens size just ask.
