What telephoto lens is actually gonna get the best results for wildlife on the a6700 without being a total nightmare to carry around? Ive been shooting for years on my old a6000 but I finally bit the bullet and upgraded to the a6700 and wow the autofocus is just on another level compared to what I'm used to. Problem is my old 55-210 kit lens is really showing its age now and the quality just isnt there for the sharp detail I want.
Im planning a big trip to Yellowstone in about three weeks so Im kinda on a deadline to figure this out. My budget is sticking around the $1300 mark though I could go a bit higher if the glass is really that much better. My main thoughts right now are:
I keep looking at the Sony 70-350 because its so light and the 1.5x crop makes it a 525mm equivalent but I wonder if I'll regret not having that 500mm or 600mm native reach for those far away grizzly shots. I'm just worried about the weight since the a6700 body is so small and I dont want it to feel super front-heavy while hiking all day. Does anyone have experience with how these balance on the newer bodies or is the internal zoom on the big 200-600 really worth the extra bulk? I just want something sharp that won't make my arms fall off by noon...
@Reply #2 - good point! Distance is everything at Yellowstone. If you want more reach than the 70-350 without breaking the bank, look at these:

Quick question tho, are you mainly hiking deep into the backcountry or shooting closer to the car? That totally changes the weight trade-off. The Tamron 150-500mm f/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD is a fantastic alternative since its way shorter than the Sony FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS when retracted, making it much easier to pack!
Seconded!
Honestly, I've tried many setups and the Sony E 70-350mm f/4.5-6.3 G OSS is the sweet spot. Its sharp as hell and the XD linear motor handles the Sony a6700 Camera speed like a champ. The Sony FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS is killer glass but way too front-heavy for hiking without a monopod... TL;DR: Get the 70-350mm. Its light, sharp, and that 525mm equivalent reach is perfect for most Yellowstone shots.
