Finally got my ZV-E10 II and I'm so stoked to take it to Japan next month! Im torn between the Sony 11mm f1.8 and the Sigma 16mm f1.4 for street vlogging. Budget is strictly under $500. The Sigma looks sharp but is it too heavy compared to the 11mm for all day walking?

Regarding what #1 said about the lighter lens being better, the balance on that Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary is unfortunately pretty bad on small bodies. It feels front-heavy and awkward. Quick tips:

  • Active stabilization adds a crop, making 16mm feel way too narrow.
  • The Viltrox 13mm f/1.4 AF is a great alternative if the Sony E 11mm f/1.8 is too wide. Are you filming yourself or just the streets?

Jumping in here because Japan is literally the best place for vlogging! Seriously, you're gonna love the footage from that camera. > The Sigma looks sharp but is it too heavy compared to the 11mm for all day walking? Totally agree with the guys above about the weight. Honestly, that Sigma is a total beast but your wrist will basically hate you by lunch. Since you're being careful with the budget, have you looked at the Samyang AF 12mm F2.0 E? I always suggest it because it has weather sealing which is a lifesaver if you get caught in a random drizzle in Kyoto. Its super light and leaves you plenty of cash for essentials like a spare Sony NP-FZ100 Rechargeable Battery. Safety first when you're far from home, ngl! Definitely grab a Hoya 62mm NXT Plus UV Filter too just to keep that glass safe from street dust while you're out exploring. Have an amazing time!

TL;DR: The lighter lens is the better choice for travel. Weight fatigue is real when you are walking 20,000 steps a day. Technically speaking, the weight distribution on a compact body like yours matters more than raw sharpness for vlogging. A heavy lens pulls the center of gravity forward, which leads to shaky footage and wrist fatigue. I have seen so many people bring bulky gear on trips only to leave it in the hotel because it is just too much of a chore to carry. I have a few warnings for your trip:

  • Avoid setups that require a massive gimbal for balance.
  • Be wary of narrow focal lengths that crop your face too tightly.
  • Dont sacrifice portability for a slightly faster aperture you might not even use during the day. In my experience, the heavier option is great for stationary shoots but a nightmare for street vlogging. When youre navigating crowded streets in Shibuya, you want something you can whip out and use one-handed without thinking twice. Stick to the lighter glass to ensure you actually enjoy the trip instead of worrying about your gear.
