Honestly I am so sick of my current setup, the kit lens that came with my a6700 is just... ugh. Its driving me crazy because the photos look so soft and the power zoom is just plain annoying when Im trying to catch a quick shot. I just upgraded to the a6700 for my trip to Tokyo in three weeks and I am beyond excited to finally have a real camera body but I need one lens that can do it all because I really dont want to be that person fumbling with three different primes in the middle of a crowded street.
So I was thinking maybe the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8? My logic was that it's super tiny and that f2.8 would be great for the neon lights at night but then I got worried that 50mm just isnt enough reach for like, architecture or random street scenes. I have a budget of around $800 and I really just want to buy one thing and leave it on the camera the whole time.
I have looked at a few options already:
Im honestly so frustrated because I want that perfect balance of being lightweight but also high quality. Is the Tamron too big? People say it's huge but the stabilization sounds nice and the constant f2.8 is tempting. I dont know. What is actually the best versatile zoom that wont make me regret my life choices while walking 20k steps a day? I just cant decide...
Building on the earlier suggestion, it really comes down to the raw specs versus the weight you wanna carry.
In my experience over the years, you usually have to sacrifice weight for reach. Honestly, to narrow it down:
