so im planning this big surprise bash for my sisters 30th next month and im so hyped but also kinda paranoid she will find the gift list. I have been looking at the settings and I am torn between setting it to Private and just using the invite link or if there is some middle ground i am missing.
My logic was if I keep it Private then maybe the link wont work for my cousins? But then if I set it to Shared I am worried it pops up in search or her people you know feed if thats still a thing. I really need this to stay hidden from her search results but let my family grab stuff. Which way is better for keeping it off the grid but still functional...
I love planning surprises like this! It is such a rush! You definitely want the Shared setting. Public is what makes it searchable, while Shared keeps it hidden from the world but open to anyone with your link!!
^ This. Also, I have used that exact setup for years and it works well every single time. No complaints here. As long as you do not toggle it to Public, your sister wont stumble on it. It stays totally invisible to the general site search. Saw this thread this morning and figured I would chime in because I just did this for my brothers wedding recently. Just a technical detail to check tho... when you hit that invite button, are you planning on giving everyone View only access or Collaborator access? I usually stick to view only. It stops people from accidentally deleting things or messing with the quantities. One more thing... what is the plan for the shipping address? If you have it set to your sisters house, Amazon might give her a heads up about incoming packages if she has phone notifications on, which is a huge buzzkill for a surprise bash. Are you planning to add items from other sites using the browser extension or is it strictly Amazon stuff? Sometimes the third party items dont show the purchased status as clearly to other guests, so that is something to look out for if your cousins are all trying to coordinate things on their end.
Private is a major pain because you'll have to manually approve everyone who wants to see it. I've tried that before and it just slows things down. As long as you stay off Public, she won't find it. Just remember to toggle 'Don't spoil the surprise' so the items stay hidden after they're bought. Share Product is awesome for housewarming registries if you want something that isn't clunky.
