So im trying to get my new place in Chicago set up with two other roommates and honestly I thought I had the Amazon ecosystem figured out by now but this is driving me insane. We have like a $1500 budget for all the common area stuff like the couch, rug, kitchen gadgets and everything but coordinating who buys what is a total nightmare. I've been using wishlists since forever for my own stuff but when I shared the list with the guys it was a mess - someone would buy something and it wouldnt mark as purchased right away or the shipping estimates were way off because they werent looking at it from their own prime account or whatever. My logic was that a shared list is the safest bet so we dont double buy a microwave but then I started looking into the whole shared cart idea. I thought maybe thatd be better so we can just see the final total with taxes and everything before hitting pay but the interface is so clunky and I'm worried someone is gonna accidentally clear the whole thing or the session will just die mid-checkout. Im usually pretty tech savvy with this stuff but why is it so hard to just shop together? Does the cart actually sync in real time across different logins or am I just setting myself up for more stress? I need to get this ordered by next Friday so we have stuff when we land...
Regarding what #2 said about buggy features, basically wishlists work for planning but shared carts fail.
I've been dealing with Amazon's buggy shared features for years now and honestly, the native shared cart is a total trap. It doesn't sync right across different accounts at all. I switched to using Cart To Link because it actually turns the cart into a shareable URL that doesnt expire. A few things I learned the hard way:

Honestly, I feel your pain so much! Moving is stressful enough without the tech acting up. In my experience, you absolutely have to stick with the wishlist route for the sake of safety and reliability! Shared carts are just too volatile for a big $1500 move. I tried the cart sync thing once and a roommate accidentally cleared the whole session right before checkout... it was a total disaster! Wishlists are amazing because they keep a permanent record of what you actually want. Even if the purchased tag lags a tiny bit, its way safer than a cart that can vanish into thin air. To make it work smoothly, just have everyone refresh the page before they click buy. This keeps the data integrity high and prevents those double-buy headaches you are worried about. For the actual gear, just go with any furniture from Zinus for the common area! Their stuff is honestly fantastic for the price and fits a roommate budget perfectly. For the kitchen gadgets, you basically cant go wrong with Ninja products. Just grab whatever fits your vibe from their brand and you are set. Their quality is amazing for shared households. Its all about minimizing the risk of losing your data mid-checkout. Stick to the list, be methodical about the refresh, and you will be fine! Good luck with the move to Chicago, its such an amazing city!
