Adding my two cents here since I've actually cycled through three of these in the last year. Honestly, my experience with the third-party options has been a bit disappointing when it comes to long-term reliability and system integration. I really wanted the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN Art II to be the final answer, but I ran into some annoying compatibility hurdles that the reviews dont always mention.

Burst rates are capped at 15fps on higher-end bodies because Sony limits third-party glass.

Focus breathing compensation in-camera simply wont work unless you stay first-party.

I noticed some weird autofocus hunting during a backlit portrait session that the GM handles easily. It's frustrating because the optics on the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 Di III VXD G2 are genuinely great for the price, but the build quality felt a bit plasticky after a few months of heavy use. If you are doing professional event work, those little glitches and the lack of full feature support really start to eat away at the supposed value. I eventually had to trade mine in for the Sony FE 24-70mm f2.8 GM II just to get the peace of mind, even though the price tag is honestly painful... sometimes the cheaper route just ends up costing more in the long run.

Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD G2 all the way! I know it's technically 28-75, but those extra 4mm on the wide end aren't a dealbreaker for most people. The image quality is excellent, autofocus is fast and silent, and it's significantly lighter than the Sony GM. Been using mine for two years and it's been rock solid. Best value in the 24-70 range hands down.

It really depends on your budget and needs. If money is no object, the Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II is the best performer, but it's very pricey. For the best balance of quality and value, I'd recommend the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art II. It's sharper than the original Sony GM and considerably less expensive.
