What is the best zoom lens for Sony a7S III cinematography?

I’m finally upgrading my kit for the a7S III and need a versatile zoom for run-and-gun documentary work. I'm torn between the Sony GM II and the Tamron 28-75mm. Reliable AF and minimal focus breathing are priorities since I often shoot solo on a gimbal. What’s your go-to all-rounder for cinematic projects?

Sooo, I used to run the Tamron on doc sets to save weight, but honestly? I switched to the Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II and never looked back. In my experience, the AF is way more reliable for solo gimbal work, plus the focus breathing is literally zero. If you can swing the price, go Sony. Relying on third-party AF while tracking a subject is just too stressful tbh... dont risk it!

Check out the DPReview database. Technically, Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II has zero breathing, but Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN Art provides nearly identical performance for $1000 less. Better value imo.

Adding my two cents: I swapped Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 for Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II.
- Better AF
- Zero breathing
High $2299 price, but it works better imo.
