Before you pull the trigger, what is your desk actually made of? You need to be careful because if its glass or that thin hollow particle board, the force feedback will literally shake the desk apart or snap the edge right off. I've seen it happen way too many times. Since you're worried about the T300 reliability, you might want to consider the Thrustmaster T248 Hybrid Drive PS5/PS4/PC. It uses a hybrid system thats way smoother than the old Logitech tech but doesnt have those overheating issues you see in the T300 reviews. Quick tip tho: make sure to check for any support bars under your desk edge. If there is a metal frame in the way, most clamps wont even grab. Also, I would suggest looking at a GT Omega Classic Wheel Stand... using a kitchen chair is gonna kill your back during those long F1 sessions.

Honestly man, I wish there was a perfect choice under $450, but both of these have some major bummers. Starting with the Logitech G29 Driving Force Racing Wheel, the gear-driven system isn't just a minor detail... it actually feels like you're driving over a cattle grate. It is so loud and notchy that it completely breaks the immersion in GT7 when you are trying to catch a slide. While it is built like a tank, it feels like a rattling toy from a decade ago. Switching to the Thrustmaster T300 RS GT Edition brings much better smoothness, but the thermal management is a total nightmare. It is super disappointing because the force feedback is actually detailed, but after 30 minutes of heavy racing, the motor just gives up and goes weak. You have to force the fan into 'always on' mode just to keep the force feedback from fading out, which is loud and frankly shouldn't be a thing you have to deal with. Since you are on a desk, the Logitech clamp is actually easier to live with for quick setup, which is annoying since the wheel itself is inferior. The T300 clamp uses a single screw that can slip if your desk is thin. If you are dead set on these two, go T300 for the actual driving feel, but just know you are likely gonna deal with it overheating eventually. The mid-range market is honestly a bit of a letdown right now.

I finally pulled the trigger on a used PS4 Pro specifically to play Gran Turismo 7 and some of the older F1 games because I just cant justify a PS5 right now with the prices. Im so hyped to finally get off the controller though because my thumbs are actually dying from trying to make micro-adjustments on the sticks during long races. Its just not the same you know? I want that immersion and actually feeling the car lose grip.

I have been scouring eBay and local listings here in Chicago and I am basically torn between the Logitech G29 and the Thrustmaster T300 RS GT. The G29 is everywhere and it looks sturdy but I keep reading that the gear-driven motor feels kinda clunky or like notchiness compared to others. On the other hand the T300 is belt-driven which people say is way smoother but I am worried about the reliability issues I keep seeing in reviews like the motor overheating after an hour. I really want something that will last me a few years without breaking down.

Budget wise I really need to stay under $450 because I also need to buy a stand or at least a decent chair since I am currently using a wooden kitchen chair lol. Space is the biggest killer though. I live in a tiny apartment and my desk is where I do my actual work so I cant have a permanent rig setup. It needs to be something I can clamp on and off quickly without losing my mind every time I want to play.

I also saw the Fanatec CSL DD but that seems like way overkill for a PS4 Pro and probably way over my budget once you add the pedals and the load cell kit right? I just want the best bang for my buck for a casual but excited racer. Im trying to get this sorted by the end of the month so I can practice before my buddy comes over for a mini-tournament we have planned.

Which one of these actually feels better on a PS4 Pro? Like does the T300 really make a huge difference in how the car feels in GT7 compared to the G29 or am I just overthinking the whole gear vs belt thing?
