Hey everyone! I’ve been using my PS4 Pro pretty heavily lately, but I’m getting really tired of dealing with tangled micro-USB cables cluttering up my gaming setup. My current cables are starting to feel a bit loose, and I’m honestly worried about eventually wearing out the ports on my DualShock 4 controllers from constant plugging and unplugging. I’m finally looking to invest in a solid charging dock to keep things organized and always ready to go.
I’ve been browsing a few options, but I’m having a hard time deciding. I’m specifically looking for a dock that utilizes the EXT port on the bottom of the controller rather than the micro-USB on top, as I’ve heard those connections are much more durable for long-term use. It also needs to be weighted or stable enough that it won't tip over or slide around my desk when I’m trying to dock the controllers. Having clear LED indicators to show the charging status would be a huge bonus too, just so I’m not guessing if they’re actually full.
I’ve seen the official Sony station and some third-party ones from brands like PowerA or HyperX, but I wanted to get some real-world feedback first. For those of you who have been using a dock for a while, which specific model offers the best build quality and most reliable charging experience?
Similar situation here - been thinking about this since I saw your post! I went through this last year and grabbed the Fosmon PS4 Dual Controller Charger Dock to save some cash. * Learned to stick to EXT docks to save my ports
* Weighted bases are basically a must Honestly, its actually great and way cheaper than the official gear mentioned earlier! gl!
Ok so, in my experience, switching to the EXT port is seriously the best move you can make for your gear. Those micro-USB ports are basically designed to fail after a few years of heavy use... i've seen so many just get loose and stop working entirely. For your specific setup, I'd suggest looking at the HyperX ChargePlay Duo for DualShock 4. It’s actually weighted with a really solid base, so it wont tip over when you’re trying to dock your controllers in the dark. Plus, the LED indicators are super clear and easy to read. If you want something official, the Sony DualShock 4 Charging Station is also top-tier for build quality, though i think it's sometimes harder to find now. Honestly, both of these utilize the EXT pins perfectly and keep things looking way cleaner than those messy cables ever could. Good luck!!
In my experience, honestly, you should 100% stick with official Sony gear or go with PowerA. Over the years, I've tried many different setups, and ngl, the ones using that EXT port are way more reliable for long-term use. Basically, it saves ur DualShock 4 from the wear and tear of that crappy micro-USB port that always gets loose. I'm always super cautious about electrical standards, so I really recommend sticking to the licensed stuff to avoid any weird voltage issues that could fry ur battery... seriously, dont risk it with cheap knockoffs. Just get any licensed dock from PowerA and you're set. They're heavy enough so they wont slide around ur desk when ur trying to dock them. Anyway, definitely stay with the big brands for the best build quality. gl!
This is exactly what I needed to hear. Youre a lifesaver honestly.
