I finally caved and bought a used PS4 Pro off ebay and honestly im already starting to regret it a little bit because of how much extra stuff i think i need to actually make this thing playable. The guy who sold it to me said it was like new but the controller literally dies after like 45 minutes of play and the console sounds like it is about to take off through my ceiling whenever i try to run God of War or even just navigating the menus sometimes. It is so loud it actually makes me anxious that it is gonna melt or explode in my small apartment cabinet. I spent most of my savings on the console itself but I have maybe $130 left to get whatever else is actually required to make this a good experience and not a total headache.
Right now I am just using the random dusty cables that came in the box and the picture looks kinda fuzzy on my 4k tv so I think I need a better HDMI cable but I dont even know which ones are actually legit or just marketing junk. And the heat is a huge problem. I have it sitting on a wooden shelf and the back of the console gets so hot i can barely touch it. Is there a stand or a fan thing that actually works or are those just a waste of money? Im also worried about the controller situation because I hate having to sit three feet away from the screen just to keep it plugged in all the time. I was looking at those charging docks but I dont know if they are worth it or if I should just buy a brand new controller instead.
I just want to be able to sit down and play for a few hours on the weekend without worrying about the battery dying or the system overheating and shutting down on me. I feel like I missed out on the whole Pro experience so far because it feels more like a chore to get it running right. What are the absolute essential accessories I need to get this setup stable and quiet?
What do you guys think are the must-haves for a new Pro setup before I lose my mind?
I went through this exact same nightmare when I first got a used Pro. It sounded like a vacuum cleaner and the picture was blurry on my 4k set. In my experience, those fancy cooling stands with fans are a total waste of money and usually just blow more dust into the vents. What actually saved me was upgrading the cable and giving the console room to breathe. I swapped my generic lead for a Monoprice Certified Premium High Speed HDMI Cable 6ft and it cleared up the signal issues immediately.
