Which hand grip is best for the Sony RX100 VII?

I recently picked up a Sony RX100 VII for my upcoming travels, and while the image quality is absolutely incredible for such a small sensor, I’m really struggling with the ergonomics. It’s a beautiful piece of tech, but it honestly feels like a slippery bar of soap in my hands. I’m constantly worried I’m going to drop it when I’m trying to snap a quick photo one-handed while walking around.

I’ve been doing some research, but I’m torn between a few different styles. I’ve seen the official Sony AG-R2 attachment, which is just a simple stick-on rubber grip. It looks low-profile, but does it actually provide enough of a lip to hold onto? On the other hand, I’ve seen some more substantial options like the SmallRig L-brackets or even those fancy wooden baseplate grips. My biggest concern with the larger grips is whether they’ll ruin the 'pocketability' of the camera or, worse, block the battery and SD card compartment door. I really don't want to have to unscrew an entire plate just to swap out a battery mid-day!

I’m looking for something that balances a secure, confident hold with that compact form factor the RX100 series is known for. For those of you who have been using this camera for a while, which hand grip has worked best for your daily shooting, and does it interfere with the screen or ports?

I've been shooting with various cameras for years but only recently switched to this pocket beast, so I totally get the frustration with the grip. It's actually pretty stressful trying not to drop it!! Honestly, it's such a beautiful piece of tech but so slippery. Here’s what I recommend for keeping it small while staying secure:
* Lensmate Sony RX100 VII Folding Thumb Grip: This is lowkey the best fix. It slides into the hot shoe and gives your thumb a secure place to rest. It doesn't add any width to the body, so it still fits in my pocket perfectly.
* JJC Metal Hand Grip for Sony RX100 VII HG-RX100V: If u want a front grip, this one is great because it has a specific cutout for the battery and SD door. No unscrewing anything mid-day! I'm super satisfied with the JJC grip... it works well and looks pretty sleek too. Hope that helps ur decision!! 👍

sooo I just found this thread and I totally get the anxiety!! I was literally terrified of dropping my VII when I first got it... it's like trying to hold onto a wet trout lol. Since you're looking for budget stuff, I've tried a few things that won't break the bank and actually work! Here's a quick comparison of the cheap ways to save your cam: * **Option A: The Silicone Skin** - I tried the STK Silicone Armor Skin Case for Sony RX100 VII which is usually only about $12. It adds a ton of grip and basically protects the whole body from scratches. But highkey, it makes the buttons feel a bit 'mushy' which might be wierd...
* **Option B: DIY Grip Tape** - Honestly, Talon Grips DIY 5x7 Sheet is a total life saver. It's a rubberized adhesive you cut yourself for like $10. It adds basically ZERO bulk, so it stays 100% pocketable, but it doesnt give you a 'lip' to hook your finger on.
* **Option C: Leather Half-Cases** - I'd look at something like the MegaGear Ever Ready Leather Camera Half Case for Sony RX100 VII. It’s around $25 and adds a nice little ergonomic bump for your fingers. Just double check the battery door access tho, cuz some of these cheap ones are realy annoying to take off! If you're super worried about drops, I'd probably go with the silicone case for the extra padding. But if you wanna keep it tiny, the tape is amazing!! anyway, hope that helps... good luck!! 👍

oh man, I totally feel u!! That camera is literally like a bar of soap lol. I've tried a few options: * Sony AG-R2 Attachment Grip: Kinda cheap (~$15) and low-profile, but honestly doesn't add much grip.
* SmallRig L-Shape Grip for Sony RX100 VII / VI LCS2438: This is the winner!! It's super secure and doesn't block the battery door at all. Basically, go SmallRig for the best value and confidence while walking around! peace
