What are the must-have accessories for the Sony RX100 VII?

I just picked up a Sony RX100 VII because I'm going to Tokyo next month and everyone said it was the best small camera but honestly I'm kind of terrified of it. It feels so slippery in my hands? Like it's a thousand dollar bar of soap or something and I'm definitely going to drop it while I'm walking around. I've only ever used my phone for photos so all these buttons and the little pop up screen are a lot to take in. I have about $200 left in my budget to spend on stuff to make it easier to use or just to keep it safe.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I saw some people talking about a stick-on grip thing because there's nothing to hold onto on the front but then I saw some wooden cage thingies on Amazon and I'm just confused if those are for pros or if I need one too. Also the battery says it only lasts for like an hour? That sounds crazy if I'm out all day. Do I need a special charger or just more batteries? I don't want to get over my head with fancy gear I wont use but I also dont want to be stuck in Japan with a dead camera or a broken screen because I didn't buy a case. What are the actual essentials I should get before I leave?

Unfortunately, those bulky cages were a letdown and I had issues with mine snagging. Keep it simple:

Been thinking about your bar of soap comment... honestly, I had the same fear when I first took mine to Kyoto. I nearly fumbled it right off a bridge because my hands were a bit sweaty and the body is just too smooth. @Reply #1 - good point about the grip, but in my experience, I actually prefer something more substantial for peace of mind since you are new to this. Heres a couple ways to go based on what Ive tried over the years:

  • SmallRig L-Bracket for Sony RX100 VII 2467 is great because it adds a real handle to the side without the bulk of those pro cages. Much easier to grab in a hurry than the stick-on ones.
  • Sony LCJ-RXK Jacket Case is better if you want a classic look. It protects the whole body from scratches in your bag, tho it makes the camera slightly bigger.
  • Please grab a Sony PCK-LG1 Screen Protector. The back glass is super prone to scuffs from buttons or zippers and its cheap insurance. I also suggest a solid wrist strap so it cant hit the ground if you do slip. Tokyo is crowded so things happen!

Like someone mentioned, simple is best! Just grab any wrist strap from Peak Design for security. They're basically amazing and way cheaper than fixing a shattered lens! Love it!
