Which external microphones work best with Sony ZV-E10 II for vlogging?

Hey everyone! I just picked up the new Sony ZV-E10 II for my travel vlogs, and while the internal mic is decent, it really struggles with wind noise when I'm filming outside. I'm looking to upgrade to an external setup that keeps things compact but improves the audio quality significantly.

I've been looking at a few options:

  • Sony ECM-B10 for that cable-free digital connection
  • Rode VideoMic GO II for a more traditional shotgun feel
  • DJI Mic 2 for when I'm walking and talking further away

I really want something that won't block the flip-out screen or get in the way of the lens. Does anyone have experience using these specific mics on the Mark II? Which one would you recommend for the best balance of portability and clear sound?

Hey, congrats on picking up the Mark II! Honestly, for travel vlogging, you really want something that wont make your setup feel bulky or complicated. Since you mentioned the DJI option, I would also suggest looking at the Rode Wireless ME Compact Wireless Microphone System. It is usually a bit cheaper than the DJI Mic 2 and has this GainAssist tech that automatically adjusts your audio levels so you dont clip when you get loud. It is super handy when you are just starting out and dont want to keep checking the meters on the screen while you are trying to film. If you want to stick to the shoe-mounted style but need more versatility than a basic shotgun, definitely check out the Sony ECM-M1 Shotgun Microphone. Like the one you mentioned, it uses the digital interface so there are no cables to block the screen, and it has a dial on the back to change the pickup pattern. You can set it to only record what is directly in front of the lens, which is a lifesaver when you are in a noisy city or a crowded airport. One thing to keep in mind is that even with a good mic, a deadcat or furry windscreen is basically non-negotiable for travel. If you are on a tight budget, the Movo VXR10 Universal Video Microphone is a solid starter option. It is small, comes with a great windscreen, and sounds way better than the internal mic for a fraction of the cost. Just be careful with the cable placement so it doesnt get in the way of the flip-out screen!

tbh if you want to save some cash for your travel fund, the Movo VXR10 Universal Video Microphone is a total steal. Its super tiny, doesnt need batteries, and the deadcat it comes with is actually decent for wind noise. Also, the Boya BY-MM1 Cardioid Condenser Microphone is another solid budget pick if you just want better audio without spending 200 bucks.

The Sony ECM-B10 Compact Digital Shotgun is best for cable-free vlogging, while the Rode VideoMic GO II Directional Microphone is cheaper but needs wires. Sony wins on portability, honestly.
