honestly so done with the built-in mic on this zv-e10 ii. people kept saying the internal audio was improved but its still picking up every single car passing by and the wind noise is just unbearable even with that little deadcat thing on top. i have a big shoot for my travel channel this saturday here in chicago and i cant show up with this trash audio quality. i need a real mic that actually isolates my voice because im losing my mind trying to fix it in post.

  • budget is around 150 max
  • needs to stay compact for vlogging
  • really good wind rejection is a must
  • simple plugin and go, no batteries

what are you guys using that actually works? im ready to just return the camera...

Honestly just grab the <a href=" https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt= Sennheiser+MKE+200+Ultracompact+Directional+Microphone&BI=8941&KBID=10361&SID=12345&DFF=d50" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Sennheiser MKE 200 Ultracompact Directional Microphone. It handles windy cities like Chicago easily and stays out of the way. No batteries required, been super happy with mine.

Ngl the built in mics on those vlogging cameras are always a letdown no matter what the marketing says! If you are shooting in a city like Chicago you definitely need something with a tight pickup pattern to cut through all that street noise. I have been using the Rode VideoMic GO II Lightweight Directional Microphone for a while now and it is absolutely amazing for travel stuff. It is super lightweight and doesn't need any batteries which is a huge lifesaver when you are out all day. The background noise rejection is seriously fantastic compared to the internal mic... it actually focuses on what is right in front of it and kills a lot of that side ambiance. Another killer option if you want to keep things even more compact is the Sony ECM-G1 Shotgun Microphone. Since you are on the ZV-E10 II it just slides into the hot shoe and works without any cables at all because of that MI shoe tech! I love it because there is one less thing to forget or snag on your gear bag. It comes with a decent fluffy windscreen but if you are dealing with real Chicago wind you might want to look into a thicker deadcat for extra protection. Both of these are way under your 150 budget and will totally save your audio for that shoot this weekend. Dont give up on the camera yet tho because the image quality is actually great... you just need that external mic to match the vibe!
