honestly so fed up with my basic kit lens it is literally ruining my shots the corners are just mush and the autofocus hunts way too much for professional work. im ready to just toss it and get something decent for my fx30 before my next real estate shoot in london next friday. i need something wider since its a crop sensor and im struggling with tight rooms.

  • budget is like 600 quid max
  • must have fast af
  • lightweight for my rs3 mini gimbal
  • sharp even wide open

what are you guys using that actually holds up for video? is the sony 11mm too wide or should i stick to something like the viltrox 13mm...

Over the years, I've found these two work perfectly for real estate:

Been shooting real estate for a minute now and honestly a zoom gives you way more flexibility when you're stuck in a corner. You should check out the Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary. It is incredibly compact and light, which makes it a dream for the RS3 Mini. It stays sharp across the frame and the AF is very fast on the FX30. tbh the build quality is night and day compared to the kit lens.

  • Constant f/2.8 helps when lighting is rubbish.
  • Minimal focus breathing for video.
  • Tiny footprint so you can get into tight spots. If you prefer native, the Sony E PZ 10-20mm f/4 G is another solid shout. It is a power zoom so it integrates perfectly with your camera body controls. Since it zooms internally, your gimbal wont need rebalancing when you change focal lengths. Both are miles better than what you're using and should fit your budget easily.

Look, just go for the Sony E 11mm f/1.8. In my experience, native glass is always better for the FX30 if you want reliable autofocus. Its super lightweight for the RS3 Mini and the corners are way sharper than that kit lens. 11mm is perfect for those cramped London rooms tbh, you wont regret the extra width. Sonys AF is just more reliable for pro work.
