what is the absolute best prime lens for street photography on the a6700? honestly i am so fed up with my kit lens it is just way too slow and soft...

i am heading to tokyo next week and really need a sharp setup that isnt huge. my budget is like $500 max and i just want something that actually works in the dark.

The Sigma 23mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary is hands down the winner for your Tokyo trip! It provides a 34.5mm equivalent focal length which is the gold standard for street photography.

  • f/1.4 aperture is massive for those neon night shots
  • Super fast stepping motor for focus
  • Weighs only 340g Love this lens because the MTF charts are stellar and it stays amazingly sharp even wide open!

Quick reply while I have a sec... i spent way too much on the Sony E 35mm f/1.8 OSS thinking it would be my holy grail but honestly i was so let down. The chromatic aberration was driving me crazy and it just didnt feel sharp enough for the a6700 sensor. Kind of a bummer given the price tag. I eventually switched to the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary and its a total beast for the money. Its way under your $500 budget so you can actually afford some decent ramen in Tokyo lol. Its killer in the dark. Quick tip tho: disable that annoying orange AF assist light in your settings or youre gonna stick out like a sore thumb doing street shots at night. Also, try setting a minimum shutter speed in Auto ISO so you dont get motion blur while wandering the alleys.
