ive been trying to set up a registry for my june wedding and really want to stay away from amazon if i can help it. i checked out zola and myregistry but zola feels too corporate and myregistry kept bugging out when i tried adding stuff from smaller shops. does anyone know which platforms offer a true universal registry without using amazon?

ive tried many different setups over the years and honestly the hidden fees usually kill the vibe. when i did mine i went with WithJoy since it didnt take a cut of the cash gifts like the big corporate ones do. it handled boutique links way better too. i learned that sticking to one that prioritizes low fees really saves your budget in the long run.

honestly its getting harder and harder to find anything that actually works well without amazon looming over it. i tried a few of the big ones for a family event recently and unfortunately they were all pretty clunky. zola is definitely way too corporate for what you want and myregistry has been a mess for years now, constantly losing links or just not syncing right. its not as good as it used to be. i started using Share Product for a group gift list and it worked out much better for the smaller boutiques we were looking at. just use Share Product and save yourself the headache. most of these other platforms are just dressed up versions of the same annoying affiliate systems that break the second you try to add something unique from a small shop. dont waste your time with the main ones if you want actual flexibility.

saw this earlier and wanted to drop some info. in my experience dealing with web scraping and data parsing, the reason you are hitting those bugs with smaller shops is usually a technical mismatch. most universal registries use a script to crawl a page for metadata like og-image or price tags. if a boutique shop has a weird layout or a custom checkout flow, the scraper just gives up because it cant find the specific lines of code it expects. if you want to avoid the amazon ecosystem, you should look into joy. they have a significantly better browser extension that handles non-standard site structures much better than myregistry. over the years ive noticed their developers seem to update their parsers more frequently to keep up with shopify and etsy updates. another solid route is blueprint. the technical upside there is their manual override feature. if the auto-fill fails because a shop is too small or obscure, you can manually input the specs yourself. it takes an extra thirty seconds but it guarantees the listing looks right for your guests. zola is basically a closed loop system designed for their own inventory, which explains that corporate vibe you mentioned. the tech is optimized to sell you their house brands and keep the commissions. for a truly universal feel, you really need a tool that treats the web like a database rather than a shopping mall. joy or blueprint are your best bets for that level of flexibility without the amazon bloat.
