Honestly im about to lose my mind with these group orders we do for the apartment. I live with three other guys here in Chicago and we try to be smart by doing one big Amazon haul every month for bulk cleaning supplies, snacks, and kitchen stuff but managing the costs is becoming a total nightmare. I always end up being the one who puts it on my credit card since I have the Prime account but then I spend hours trying to figure out who owes what because the tax and those random 'clippable' coupons never split evenly. Yesterday I was literally shaking with stress trying to track down $18 from a roommate who claimed he didnt order the specific protein bars even though I saw him eating them! It makes me so anxious because Im basically floating $400 of my own money every month and with rent due in four days I really need that cash back in my account. Ive tried using a basic spreadsheet but people just ignore it or find excuses to pay less. Is there any actual tool or maybe a browser extension that can scan an Amazon invoice and just tell everyone what they owe automatically? Im so fed up with the manual math and chasing people down...

Unfortunately, those automated Amazon tools are total trash and always break. I had issues with every one...

  • try Splitwise instead
  • set a strict deadline Its much better.

Living with three guys and being the house bank is basically a recipe for a breakdown. Honestly, Amazon makes it way harder than it needs to be to see the itemized breakdown with taxes per person. If you want to stop the manual math, you should look into a few specific tools.

  • Amazon Order History Reporter: It is a Chrome extension that lets you export your orders to a CSV. Way easier than staring at the screen.
  • share amazon canada cart: This is super handy because everyone can actually see and verify what is in the cart before you pay. No more drama later about who ordered the protein bars.
  • Tab: It is a phone app where you take a photo of the packing slip and it digitizes the items so you can just tap who bought what. Ngl, the biggest issue is usually the taxes and coupons. I usually just divide the total tax by the number of items and call it a day. If they still do not pay, maybe just change the Prime password till they cough up the cash...

^ This. Also, I totally feel your pain because chasing people for cash is the absolute worst! I am pretty sure I heard about a tool that might help but I cant remember the exact name... I think there is a Chrome extension that tries to parse the tax and coupons for you? Not 100% sure but it is worth a quick search! Here are some tips to keep the costs down:

  • Try to stick to items with the Subscribe and Save discount because it saves a ton of money for everyone.
  • I think you can set up a free Amazon Business account which might give you way better receipts for splitting.
  • Maybe just have them pay a flat 10 percent tax buffer upfront so youre not out of pocket. You are doing an amazing job keeping that household running! Love the dedication honestly. Found this really helpful guide on Cart To Link that explains exactly how to create a shareable link for your Amazon cart.
